Translate a selection with the stamp

To translate one sentence, select it and press the 訳 stamp. You see the translation right there, without translating the whole page.

How it works

  1. Select the text you want to translate.
  2. A small vermilion 訳 stamp appears next to it.
  3. Click the stamp to see the translation in a card.

Instead of clicking the stamp, you can press Alt + S (Option + S on a Mac), or right-click and choose “Translate selection”. Press Esc to close the card.

What the card does

  • Switch between Natural, Formal and Casual to compare phrasings.
  • Copy the translation.
  • Listen to the translation read aloud by your browser.
  • For short terms, the knowledge card shows a reading and a short explanation.

Knowledge cards for short selections count toward this month’s knowledge-card lookups (30 a month on the free plan).

Long selections

A selection is translated up to 5,000 characters; longer selections are cut to their first 5,000 characters. For long articles, translate the whole page.

Hide the stamp

To stop the stamp from appearing, turn off “Selection stamp” under Settings › Translation › Features. To hide it on one site only, choose “Never translate this site” in the ribbon panel.

In Chrome, the stamp doesn’t appear on its own until you allow access to all websites. Use Alt + S or the right-click menu, or allow access.
